Major Accident or Fatality

Immediate Actions
In the first instance calling the emergency services and applying appropriate first aid shall take priority. Members at the scene of the incident shall co-operate with and take direction from the emergency services.
Reporting
Any paddling accident or fatality should be reported to the Club home contact (if appropriate), and to Paddle UK using their online report system (https://paddleuk.org.uk/online-incident-reporting/) as soon as practicable.
Any member who witnesses an incident is advised to make a record of their recollection of events as soon as possible after the event.

Comment to the Media

At all stages it is vital that all club members and officials (other than those authorised by Paddle UK) refrain from comment and from giving interviews and statements to the media and press.
Only those who are fully informed and briefed by the emergency services or Paddle UK as appropriate should be placed in a position to give or make statements and comment.
Uninformed comment can be both harmful and damaging to the image of the sport and the Club. Misguided impulse gestures, whilst they may be done for the best possible reasons, can cause distress and hurt to the injured victims and their families. All should be aware that it is very difficult not to make a statement or comment that could be erroneous or damaging when being pressured to undertake an interview.

Pool Incidents

Any incident at the swimming pool shall be managed in accordance with the swimming pool operating procedures. In addition, the procedures described above shall apply to any incident that results in a major injury or fatality.

Minor Accident

Apply appropriate first aid and if necessary, calling the emergency services. Any accident should be reported to the Club home contact and Paddle UK as soon as practicable.

Child Protection

The Club adheres to the Paddle UK`s child protection policy. Any incidents or concerns related to child protection should be reported to one of the Club`s welfare officers, whose names and contact details are published at https://www.badpaddlers.org/about-us/documents/302-safeguarding-children-and-vulnerable-adults-3?start=4.
