August 2011
Planting will be undertaken this autumn to reinforce the existing hedges around the site and to create a new hedge across the site between the car park and the conservation area. We have selected Hopes Grove Nurseries mixed native hedging, mix 2, and placed an order so we receive bare rooted transplants this autumn.
Hopes Grove mix 2 was the widest ranging and most interesting mix available from any supplier when tested by Gardening Which (G.W. Native Hedging suppliers on trial November 2001).
The mixture comprises 70% Quickthorn and Blackthorn to knit the hedge together, the balance is drawn from Common Alder, Green Beech, Common Dogwood, English Oak, Field Maple, Guelder Rose, Hazel, Hornbeam, Wild Privet, Dog Rose, Scotch Rose, Sweet Briar, Common Buckthorn, Spindle, Wayfaring Tree and Wild Crabapple.
