Access to Local Rivers and Canals

A brief reminder that a licence is required for most local rivers and canals: this includes the Basingstoke Canal. See requirements below for local waterways

  • Basingstoke Canal - British Canoeing "On the Water" Membership or contact the Basingstoke Canal Authority (01252-370073) for a Basingstoke Canal licence
  • River Thames - British Canoeing "On the Water" Membership or contact the Environment Agency (0118-953 5650) for a Thames licence
  • Kennet and Avon Canal -  British Canoeing "On the Water" Membership or go to the Canal and Rivers Trust: https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/enjoy-the-waterways/canoeing-and-kayaking/licensing-your-canoe
  • River Wey Navigation  - British Canoeing "On the Water" Membership or contact the National Trust (01483-561389)
