Preparations for the permanent fence took another step forward this weekend as we removed the section of hedge closest to wharf.
The 25 metres of "hedge" adjacent to the towpath at the west ent of the site comprised mainly ivy on dead trees and brambles. This section has now been grubbed up and the soil trimmed back so that the new fence can be installed at the same level as the towpath.
For the remainder of the section adjacent to the towpath the fence will be erected on the Club's side of the hedge. Enhancement and reinforcement planting of the remaining section of hedgerow is planned with mixed species native plants. See the earlier blog article here.
Whilst we were working on the land we have also:
- consolidated various small heaps of topsoil into one stockpile
- sorted various rubbish by type for ease of disposal
- filled one large skip with excavated soil
- trimmed within the existing hedges so the fence can be erected
