A challenge for the Club is to ensure that we have paddling equipment suitable for and accessible to as wide a range of paddlers as possible.  This page describes some of the equipment the Club uses to provide inclusive paddling.

Kayaks

  • Kiwi 2 - two person open cockpit kayak. The open cockpit means easy access and space for extra support if necessary. Two people allows for either collaborative paddling by peers or a stronger paddler to support a weaker paddler.
  • Sundance - single person open cockpit kayak. The open cockpit means easy access and space for extra support is necessary. A single person kayak means independence.
  • Scooter - sit on top kayak.

Personal Flotation Devices

For paddlers with reasonable mobility and good confidence in the water, the Club's standard "50N" buoyancy aids are fine. For more details click here.
For paddlers with restricted mobility ior less confidence in the water the Club has a range on "100N" lifejackets which provide more buoyancy and tend to turn swimmers face up in the water.

Specialist Bits

The Club has a small selection of specialist kit to help make paddling more accessible. We also have a bag of kit borrowed from Hampshire County Council that includes a range of gizmos designed to help overcome disabilities: seats to provide extra support, neck supports and hand supports. In practice an awful lot can be achieved with bits of foam and sticky tape!
